Can you help?

On Thursday 17 September 2009 at 4.20pm a male entered John Ramsdens Pawnbrokers & Jewellers on Cavendish Street, Barrow-in-Furness.

After initially viewing a selection of gold chains on a stand in the presence of a member of staff, the male grabbed the display and ran out of the premises towards Rawlinson Street. The stand contained approximately 50 gold chains with a retail value of £40,000.

The shop assistant was uninjured but quite shaken by this incident.

The offender is described as a white male, 6 ft 2 ins tall and of stocky build. He had a tanned complexion and spoke with a local accent.

He was wearing a black tracksuit and a cream coloured beanie style hat.

From witness acoounts, we know the offender ran out of the shop onto Cavendish Street and ran towards Rawlinson Street. They were then seen crossing the road and heading down Crellin Street towards the railway line.

The above photograph shows the same style of stand which has been stolen, with the chains displayed in a similar manner.

DC John Dilks, who is investigating the incident, said: "We would appeal to anyone in the area of Cavendish Street and Rawlinson Street at the the time of the theft to get in touch with the police if they witnessed anything untoward. Likewise, anyone in Barrow town centre on Thursday afternoon who recognises the description above please get in touch."

"I would also ask people to take a look at the style of jewellery stand which has also been stolen. It may be that the thief has immediately discarded this after stealing the jewellery. It is quite a distinctive shape, if you find anything like this in a bin, back street or wherever, again, please get in touch on 0845 33 00 247."

Information can also be passed via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
