Launch of largest flu vaccination programme


Cumbria County Council is supporting a major drive to help people stay well this winter. 

For the first time, all our youngest primary school children will be eligible to receive the free nasal spray vaccine, as part of the largest school-based vaccination programme in England involving children in 17,000 schools.

As well as protecting against flu, the NHS Stay Well This Winter campaign will urge people over 65 or those with long-term health conditions, such as diabetes, stroke, heart disease or respiratory illness, to prepare for winter with advice on how to ward off common illnesses.

3.    Casual Recreation Assistants (to provide cover on an ‘as and when required’ basis)
Salary - Spinal Point 7 (£7.1088 per hour)
We are looking for enthusiastic people with strong water rescue skills, communication skills and confidence in dealing with large numbers of the public, to join our team of Recreation Assistants. The posts may require you to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends.  Please see the website below for more details on hours/shift patterns.
You will assist with the supervision of the pool(s), sports hall and other activity areas and you will be responsible for delivering a high standard of service and customer care. Essential duties will include ensuring a high level of cleanliness is maintained throughout the building.
An enthusiastic approach to work and an ability to communicate effectively with staff and customers is essential. You must have a good standard of health and have the ability to work as part of a team.
A current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is essential. Please note that the Highfield lifeguard qualification is not accepted.
Experience of working in a similar environment is essential for the part time positions and would be an advantage for the casual position.
The successful candidate(s) of the contracted positions will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme.  Casual staff will be eligible to enrol.
The successful applicant will be required to complete a declaration of their criminal record history and apply for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check from the Disclosure & Barring Service prior to appointment.

feel warmer. You should also make sure that you dress warmly - ideally with

to give you warmth and energy.

payment. You may be entitled to other benefits and grants. Citizens Advice
can offer advice on benefits, debt, and other issues.

The Winter Warmth Fund through Cumbria Community Foundation helps
older people in Cumbria stay warm and healthy.
You can apply for the fund if you are over 60, live in Cumbria, and receive
• State pension and/or Pension Credit, or
• Struggle to maintain a basic acceptable standard of living during the winter
due to the cost of heating your home and the restrictions of cold weather
The normal grant is £125 or £250 in exceptional circumstances.
