Cumbria Police to host recruitment open evening

Cumbria Police are hosting a recruitment open evening for members of the public who wish to learn more about the role of PCs and PCSOs. We welcome people from across the county to attend and in particular encourage applicants from West Cumbria.

We are looking to recruit 108 Police Constables, 20 Police Community Support Officers and 36 Special Constables over the coming financial year.

Applications are currently being accepted and the closing date for all applications is the 19th February 2016.

The open evening will take place on Tuesday 9th February 2016 from 6.30pm-7.30pm at St Michaels Church, Falcon Place, Workington.

The open evening will offer people interested in these roles the opportunity to meet Superintendent Gary Slater, Chief Inspector Matt Kennerley and Detective Inspector Dan StQuintin from the West Cumbria policing team. Presentations will be given about the roles of PC and PCSO and other specialist positions within the Constabulary and there will be a chance to look at police equipment and uniform. Staff from Cumbria Constabulary Human Resource department will also be in attendance to offer advice on the application process.

Superintendent Gary Slater said “This is a fantastic opportunity for potential candidates interested in a career in policing to learn about the organisation and get advice from experienced officers on all the roles available. The officers will be able to share their experiences and are passionate about helping others get into a career they enjoy.

Women’s Community Matters job vacancy



Women’s Community Matters are looking for a new temporary Project Worker to set up and begin to deliver the New Lives project. 

The successful applicant will work within the Women’s Community Matters team and closely with Barrow Borough Council Housing Department. 

New Lives is a project to support women experiencing domestic violence and will provide temporary emergency accommodation to women as well as providing emotional and practical support.

Salary Scale: 6 – Senior Officer Grade 2 (£22,937-£29,558 per annum)

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join our busy Building Control Team in the delivery of a high quality customer focused service.
The successful candidate will be involved in the full range of duties undertaken by the team and you will be utilising your expertise in a variety of ways in this compact, diverse and interesting area.
It is very much a ‘hands on’ role, so you should be ambitious and enjoy getting involved in all aspects of building control. Your caseload would involve an interesting mix of domestic, industrial and commercial projects providing an excellent opportunity to develop your practical experience and skills.
Applicants should have a Higher National Diploma in a relevant field such as Building Construction. Applicants should also have in-depth practical experience in construction or a similar field and an understanding of the Building Regulations and associated legislation.
You will have excellent written and verbal skills and be able to organise your own workload to meet agreed targets and objectives as well as being able to work under pressure to strict deadlines; have good problem solving, analytical and IT skills, work well as part of a team, have a commitment to providing a high standard of customer care along with a self-motivated approach and first rate communication skills.  Experience of working within a competitive environment would also be an advantage.
You must have the ability to travel efficiently around the borough to conduct visits and attend meetings; a full UK driving licence and access to a car would be an advantage.

Salary – Scale 1/2 (£13,614 per annum, pro rata to hours worked)
Applications are invited for a Part-Time Receptionist to join our team at the Park Leisure Centre, where you will assist in running a friendly and efficient reception service. The position will require you to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends as follows:-
Week 1 (13 hours) Wednesday, 4.15 pm to 8.45 pm (4.5 hours)
Friday, 4.00 pm to 7.30 pm (3.5 hours)
Saturday, 11.45 am to 4.45 pm (5 hours)
Week 2 (9.75 hours) Wednesday, 4.15 pm to 8.45 pm (4.5 hours)
Sunday, 11.45 am to 5.00 pm (5.25 hours)
(Average 11.375 hours per week)
The casual post will provide cover for holidays and other absences, working on an “as and when required basis”. You may be asked to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends often at short notice.
You will receive and deal with telephone and personal enquiries at the Reception, ensuring a high standard of customer care at all times. In addition, the post holder will process all bookings, record all payments taken, balance receipts at the end of each shift and provide clerical support.
You should have experience of dealing with the public both in person and over the telephone and be computer literate. Good communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and a flexible approach to work is essential.  Previous cash handling and clerical experience would be an advantage.

BARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL - PARK LEISURE CENTRE VACANCIES


1.    Part Time Recreation Assistant – Permanent position (averaging 24.75 hrs per week)
2.    Part Time Recreation Assistant – Permanent position (12.75 hrs per week)
3.    Casual Recreation Assistants (to provide cover on an ‘as and when required’ basis)
Salary - Spinal Point 7 (£7.1088 per hour)
We are looking for enthusiastic people with strong water rescue skills, communication skills and confidence in dealing with large numbers of the public, to join our team of Recreation Assistants. The posts may require you to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends.  Please see the website below for more details on hours/shift patterns.
You will assist with the supervision of the pool(s), sports hall and other activity areas and you will be responsible for delivering a high standard of service and customer care. Essential duties will include ensuring a high level of cleanliness is maintained throughout the building.
An enthusiastic approach to work and an ability to communicate effectively with staff and customers is essential. You must have a good standard of health and have the ability to work as part of a team.
A current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is essential. Please note that the Highfield lifeguard qualification is not accepted.
Experience of working in a similar environment is essential for the part time positions and would be an advantage for the casual position.
The successful candidate(s) of the contracted positions will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme.  Casual staff will be eligible to enrol.
The successful applicant will be required to complete a declaration of their criminal record history and apply for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check from the Disclosure & Barring Service prior to appointment.
