Creative Apprentice in Digital Marketing and Social Media

1 year apprenticeship, 35 hours/week. Pay: National minimum wage (£3.72-£6.31/hour depending on age)

Hone your creative skills working in an artist-led environment in Barrow-in-Furness.

Signal Film & Media and Art Gene are both artist-led companies, seeking one creative apprentice to work between our two studios. You will have the opportunity to effectively double your experience and learning through one apprenticeship, accredited by Kendal College.

If you are keen to develop your skills in marketing and social media, whilst gaining real insight into creative working practices, then we’d like to hear from you. We’re looking for a reliable, self-motivated individual with experience of using social media and good communication skills. You’ll have a GCSE in English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent) and related training such as Arts Award would be a plus, but not essential. Funding may only be available for those aged 16-24 years but the vacancy is open to all ages.

Signal Films – Work Placement Opportunity

Signal Films are offering a week’s work placement position in the delivery team of a youth training film shoot.

Working alongside the production team leaders you will get chance to learn about training young people on a creative project as well as gaining actual film production experience.

To apply you must be over 18 and available from Monday 2 April - Friday 6 April 2012.

The placement will take place in Barrow-in-Furness and is unpaid although we will cover expenses.

Come and get a glimpse of the world of digital

Don’t miss the chance to see a new exhibition of digital art and media work on display at The Forum over the next few weeks. Work created by local emerging talent during Signal Films workshops in 2009-10 will be open to the public in The Forum’s exhibition area from 21st May through until the end of June.

Classics vs. Futurists (Friday 21st-Saturday 29th May)

Works on show include a digital art exhibition which showcases 3D imagery, animations and moving image created with visiting practitioner, Alt-w award-winning artist Emma Tolmie (www.emmatolmie.co.uk). Working with Emma the artists mixed low-tech gadgetry and high-tech imagery to create striking pieces which explore the relationship between traditional art and culture and the modern digital era.

The art workshops were run as part of Signal Films “Digital ReGeneration” project, which offers opportunities in using digital technologies creatively.

Interested in photography and film making?

If you live in the Barrow and Furness area and are aged between 14-21yrs you can join Signal Films for an exciting free 4-day course where you’ll learn how to create your own short digital story.

Digital Storytelling is the art of turning a personal story into a multimedia experience using photography, film, creative sound design and music.

This fun short course will be run over two weekends (6th/7th & 13th/14th February) and will be led by professional filmmakers Carl Hunter and Clare Heney. Carl and Clare have made over 30 short films and the feature film Grow Your Own in partnership with BBC Films and Pathe. They have taught many filmmaking workshops and will lead you through the process of storytelling using digital media, including learning how to use stills and video cameras, sound equipment and editing software.

Your finished work will be showcased in a local exhibition at the end of February. They will also be uploaded on to You Tube for friends, family and the world to view!
