TEMPORARY HOUSING ASSISTANT - Fixed Term Contract to September 2016

Salary Scale: 2-3 (from £15,207 per annum)

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Housing Assistant working in the Operations Team within Barrow Borough Council’s Housing Service, contracted to September 2016. The role will be to support the team by being the first point of contact for customer enquiries to ensure our customers are dealt with professionally and effectively, and to provide clerical support.

The successful applicant will be customer-focused, self-motivated and a hard working team player, possessing excellent interpersonal skills to provide a first class service to our customers face-to-face and by phone.

You must have previously worked in a customer-centred environment providing a front-line service in the housing sector or other relevant field and be able to demonstrate effective IT and keyboard skills, coupled with the ability to prioritise a demanding workload effectively.

The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES OPEN DAY – Barrow Town Hall

On Thursday 17th September, the Barrow Borough Council Development Services Team are holding an Open Day for all our service users and colleagues.

The purpose of the event is to give you an insight into the Development Services Department. You will have the opportunity to meet and discuss anything with all members of the Development Services Team.

There will be stalls set up from all parts of the team: Planning policy, Building Control, Web Mapping, Land Charges, Property Information, Regeneration, Planning Admin and Planning Development.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to speak to the Development Services team to discuss any queries you may have or to just gain a more developed understanding of what it is we do and all the services we provide.

The event is scheduled to commence at 13:30 and will take place in the Banqueting Hall in Barrow Town Hall.

Proceeds from Love Barrow Awards 2015 raffle - Alice's Escapes

The remaining half was donated to the other Love Barrow Awards charity, St Mary's Hospice.

'Heritage Open Days' 2014 in Barrow

Barrow Borough Council is supporting Heritage Open Days 2014 as activities take place all over England to celebrate the 20^th Anniversary of the Heritage Open Days Programme.

There will be a free tour of Barrow Town Hall at 10.30 am on Thursday, 11^th September. Knowledgeable Town Hall Guides will take you on a tour of the magnificent civic reception rooms in this splendid Victorian Building designed by W H Lynn in modern gothic style, built of local red sandstone and opened in 1887. (NB there is no access to clock tower) There is no need to book in advance. 

Councillor Helen Wall, Spokesperson for Wildlife, Heritage and Culture commented “Barrow has a fascinating history and I get really excited about events which help people - including me - find out more about it. I hope Heritage Open Days tell us more of our local story and get a lot more people interested in it.”

Heritage Open Days celebrates England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.

Every year on four days in September, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors. It is a once-a-year chance to discover architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring local history and culture to life.

So much to see and do - free of charge and right on people’s doorstep, Heritage Open Days is an event for everyone, whatever their background, age and ability. From castles to city halls, tunnels to tower tops, police cells to private homes, workshops to woodland walks, the variety of places and ways to discover them are endless.

Mayor's Charity Christmas Concert

The Mayor of Barrow will be hosting a charity Christmas Concert to be held on Friday, 14 December commencing at 7.30 pm at Barrow Town Hall.

The concert will be performed by "Voce" - a four piece group with a difference. Phil McIntosh, Iain Nicholson, Mark Johnston and Chris Warby are all from the amateur stage musical scene, singing crossover pop/classical songs, similar in style to Il Divo and Blake.

Tickets are priced at £6.50 each (£5 concessions) and are on sale now at The Forum.

All proceeds will be donated to the Mayor's chosen charities for this year which are the RNLI, Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue and the NW Air Ambulance Service.

Barrow Male Voice Choir charity concert

The Mayor and Mayoress are hosting a charity concert performed by the very popular Barrow Male Voice Choir.

The concert will be held on 27th April 2012 commencing at 7.30 pm at Barrow Town Hall. Tickets are priced at £5.00 per head including refreshments and are available from the Forum Box Office.

All funds raised will go towards the Mayor's defibrillator fundraising campaign to provide businesses, clubs and organisations with defibrillators, which are used to treat people following cardiac arrest. The campaign has so far raised over £25,000 and it would be fantastic if we could achieve £30,000 by the end of the Mayor's term of office.
