‘Furness Hoard’ a talk by Dot Boughton

Thursday 10th May at the Dock Museum, Barrow in Furness

Stunning Viking hoards have been found recently in Furness and Silverdale. Want to know more about the Vikings in the North West? Dot Boughton gives a fascinating talk on Viking finds with a special emphasis on the Furness Hoard.

When the Furness Hoard was first discovered it was taken to Dot for identification. So she was one of the first to see the Furness Hoard and to explore its significance to the area.

Dot Boughton is the Finds Liaison Officer for the North West. She works for the Portable Antiquities Scheme, set up to record finds found in England and Wales. Every year many thousands of objects are discovered, many of these by metal-detector users, but also by people whilst out walking, gardening or going about their daily work. Such discoveries offer an important source for understanding our past.

Free Admission 1.30-2.30pm
