Appointment of independent person to oversee conduct of Barrow Borough councillors

From July 2012 Barrow Borough Councillors will operate under a new ethical standards system (including a new Code of Conduct) as a result of the Localism Act 2011. Before the Council decides to investigate an allegation that a Councillor has breached the new Member Code of Conduct it must first consult a person who is completely independent of the Council.

We are therefore looking for an independent person to advise the Council on matters relating to the conduct of Borough Councillors.

No salary is payable, but the Council will pay reasonable travelling and subsistence incurred in travel to meetings, which are held at Barrow Town Hall.

If you are interested in this new and important role please write a letter of application setting out the reasons why you want to apply and what skills and knowledge you feel you can contribute.

Send your submission to the Democratic Services Manager, Barrow Borough, Town Hall, Duke Street, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, LA14 2LD or e-mail it to jwhuck@barrowbc.gov.uk.

Closing date: 29th June 2012.
