100 days to go to Police and Crime Commissioner Election

It is a 100 days until the election of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria.

The new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) will replace the county’s Police Authority following an election on the 15 November. The PCC will be responsible for setting policing priorities, deciding how the policing budget is spent, holding the Chief Constable to account and consulting with the public.

Stuart Edwards, Chief Executive, Cumbria Police Authority said “In a 100 days time the people of Cumbria will go to the polls to elect the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria.

“The election is a great opportunity for the people of Cumbria to influence the future policing in the county. You can only vote if your names appears in the electoral register in your area. The annual registration canvass is currently underway so make sure you respond to the form you will have received so that you can vote. If you have any queries regarding registration or voting you should contact your local authority as soon as possible.

“Any potential PCC candidates will have until noon on 19 October to submit their nomination. If you would like further information about the role of the PCC, please contact the Police Authority office or visit www.cumbriapoliceauthority.org.uk/pcc on our website, we have recently added a range of useful information for candidates.

“During the next 100 days there will be further information about the candidates and the election process as this will be the first election to use the supplementary voting system.

“In the meantime the the Police Authority work continues to undertake a smooth transition to PCC. ”
