Barrow AFC fans kick off the season with a health check

Barrow AFC’s Community Board launches a new Healthy Bluebirds project at the first game of the season against Telford.

The club is arranging health related promotions at most of the home games throughout the season. The season kicks off on Saturday 11 August with free health checks from Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Centre.

Barrow AFC Community Officer Craig Rutherford said the club has highlighted improving the health of the community as one of its key community targets. “The Club is conscious that Barrow has a poor health record compared to the national average.  We have looked to see what the club can realistically do to help. We have already planned some work in schools and we are looking at what we can do to help older adults. We can at least raise awareness of health issues amongst our supporters and hopefully some people will benefit.

We have invited various partners to promote healthy activities at our home games and we hope to have about 18 games covered this season.”

The following sessions are already confirmed;
Sat 11 Aug v Telford                     Nuffield Health Health Checks
Sat 25 Aug v Alfreton                    NHS Stop Smoking campaign
